Salary: USD 115,000 - 215,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Senior Materials Scientist to lead materials development for its 3D printing platform, which powers innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders including Apple, Google, Tesla, and NASA.
In this role, you will conduct research and develop world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations through validation and commercialization. You'll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on Formlabs hardware. You'll design and perform rigorous experiments, using data-driven insights to inform materials performance improvements. This is an autonomous position where you'll partner with product management and cross-functional engineering teams to continuously advance the materials portfolio across industries including engineering, consumer, manufacturing, automotive, and healthcare.
You are a creative, resourceful problem-solver who balances speed with scientific rigor in a dynamic environment. You have a solid understanding of materials science fundamentals and polymer development, with a passion for testing and troubleshooting at scale. You excel at designing rigorous experiments to optimize materials performance and can work autonomously to learn new skills and drive objectives forward. You value good documentation and thrive collaborating with diverse scientists and engineers.
Bonus experience includes materials development for 3D printing (especially SLA/DLP or SLS printers), 3D CAD modeling, and programming skills (Python, Matlab, SQL).

REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field
- Solid understanding of materials science and polymer development fundamentals
- Experience designing and conducting rigorous experiments
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
