Graphcore is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the Applied AI team and help scale state-of-the-art AI models across thousands of accelerators. In this role, you will develop and optimize new and existing AI models for Graphcore's specialized hardware, with a focus on large-scale systems where performance is critical.
You will have visibility across the entire pipeline from novel accelerator hardware to state-of-the-art AI applications and the software stack in between, playing a critical role in identifying opportunities to innovate and differentiate Graphcore's technology. You'll work closely with researchers in a rapidly-evolving field where even senior engineers are constantly learning and adapting to new challenges.
The Applied AI team acts as proxies for customers, understanding the latest AI models, applications, and software alongside Graphcore's own hardware and software stack to ensure seamless integration and scale. Work spans from low-level kernel development and optimization for novel hardware through to implementing and scaling research-level algorithms for the latest AI models. You will collaborate with Research, Software, and Product teams to define, build, and test Graphcore's next generation of AI hardware.
Key responsibilities include: implementing and training state-of-the-art machine learning models optimized for performance, accuracy, and scalability across systems with thousands of accelerators; benchmarking and profiling ML models to identify performance bottlenecks; developing deep understanding of the software stack to optimize kernel implementations; testing and evaluating new internal software releases, providing feedback to software engineering teams, making code fixes, and conducting code reviews; designing and conducting experiments on novel AI methods; collaborating across Research, Software, and Product teams; and engaging with the AI community to stay current with latest developments.

REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX
- Strong Python or C++ software development skills
- Expertise in hardware-accelerated deep learning from model training to optimization and evaluation
- Capability to design, execute, and report from ML experiments
- Experience with distributed training and inference of large-scale models
- Familiarity with performance profiling and optimization techniques
- Applicants must have legal right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available
