Little Journey is building Trial Flow, a participant support platform that simplifies the clinical trial experience for participants and caregivers worldwide. The company is a Series A healthtech startup with around 30-40 people, founded by a pediatric anaesthetist and human-centered product designer.
You'll join a small, autonomous product squad of approximately 10 engineers, reporting to the Engineering Manager. This role emphasizes full-lifecycle engineering: understanding problems deeply before coding, designing solutions thoughtfully, and owning what you build in production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with Product and Design to understand user and business problems, challenge assumptions, and decide what's worth solving
- Designing complex solutions across user journeys, APIs, data, architecture, security, and operational impact; documenting designs visually and technically
- Building across the full product stack: frontend, mobile, APIs, services, and data models
- Owning your work from testing and deployment through observability, production support, and incident learning
- Raising the bar for the team through design and code review, knowledge sharing, and improving engineering practices
The team values making thinking visible through diagrams and design docs, using AI as a partner (not a substitute for judgment), prioritizing quality over speed, collaborating over heroics, and balancing autonomy with support. You'll have the opportunity to influence not only how software is built but what gets built and why—a breadth of impact often reserved for larger organizations.
This is a full-time role, hybrid in Leeds or fully remote within the UK. The company cannot sponsor visas.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Full-lifecycle engineer with judgment and curiosity to work across the entire journey from problem to production
- Comfortable with ambiguity, open to different ways of thinking, collaborative, and able to explain trade-offs
- Preferred: experience with high-quality engineering at scale or maturity, with ability to adapt best practices to a smaller team
- Solid production software experience including:
- Fullstack development with TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and NodeJS (frontend, APIs, backend services)
- Building and releasing mobile applications, ideally with Capacitor or similar cross-platform technologies
- Building and operating applications in modern cloud environments (GCP, Docker, Vercel, Sanity CMS)
- Working in regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, life sciences) where quality, traceability, and responsible data handling matter
- Agile, cross-functional product teams collaborating with Product and Design
- Test automation and traceability to ensure designed, built, and released work meets requirements
