Cognite is seeking a Senior Field Engineer for a pre-sales/forward-deployed role based in Houston with remote flexibility. You will serve as the technical lead for complex enterprise engagements, partnering with Account Executives to move clients from strategic vision to live, functioning AI and data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Client Engagement & Strategy Execution: Partner with sales to identify and prioritize strategic opportunities. Act as the technical lead for complex customer engagements, moving clients from high-level strategy to deployed solutions using Cognite's Fast AI Prototyping capabilities via Atlas AI™ and Cognite Data Fusion®.
• Agentic Solution Development: Design and implement first-of-their-kind industrial AI agents. Leverage the Atlas AI workbench to automate complex industrial workflows, ensuring solutions are technically feasible, scalable, and grounded in the Industrial Knowledge Graph.
• Technical Representation & Use Case Design: Lead use case workshops and technical briefings. Translate functional and non-functional requirements into high-level use cases. Deliver client-focused demos and reference architectures that demonstrate ROI of Industrial AI solutions.
• Product Innovation & Field Leadership: Bridge the field and Product organization. Translate field learnings and deployment friction into actionable product requirements and scalable best practices that strengthen Cognite's Industrial DataOps leadership.
You will work across Cognite's industrial verticals (Energy, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Life Sciences, Discrete Manufacturing) and travel up to 50% to engage directly with customers.
Required Qualifications:
• 3+ years in forward-deployed engineering or pre-sales engineering roles, ideally in enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, or industrial software.
• Strong engineering background (Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Machine Learning preferred).
• Strong foundation in Python and deep understanding of the GenAI landscape (embeddings, RAG, prompt chaining).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% as needed.
Preferred Experience:
• Education or hands-on experience in industrial domains (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering).
• Previous customer-facing or sales experience.
• Experience working with real-world industrial data challenges (e.g., understanding why data quality in a refinery differs from web applications).
• Enthusiasm for bridging traditional heavy industry with Autonomous Operations via Cognite Data Fusion® and Agentic AI.
