Jane App is a high-growth, founder-led SaaS company serving thousands of clinics with practice management and patient care tools. The Developer Acceleration team's mission is to give Jane's ~300 engineers measurable leverage to ship faster through tools, infrastructure, and AI-augmentation systems.
In this Senior Developer role, you'll build the tools and shared infrastructure that make every developer at Jane faster. Your work will span agentic context management in the monolith, plugins and skills that teams use daily, safe agent execution environments, and measurement systems that track real impact. You'll operate with a platform mindset—knowing when to build durable shared systems versus quick one-offs to validate learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building systems that other developers depend on, with judgment about when tooling helps versus hinders
- Embedding alongside product teams to diagnose friction points (CI noise, PR review latency, churn) and turning observations into tooling that spreads across the org
- Driving agent-authored code from novelty to normal—growing the share of PRs that agents open, land, and merge
- Bringing a systems eye to developer workflows and productivity
- Communicating early and often in a distributed, remote-first environment
You'll work primarily in TypeScript, with exposure to the Jane monolith (Ruby on Rails). The role is deeply technical and hands-on, requiring you to not only build but also drive adoption through documentation, teaching, and collaboration.
Jane is remote-first with teams across Canada, the US, and the UK. The company serves 70,000+ businesses with 250,000+ practitioners using the product daily, and is experiencing accelerating growth.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep, hands-on experience designing systems other developers depend on, with judgment about when tooling helps and when it gets in the way
- Hands-on, daily experience building with agentic AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, similar) across the full software development lifecycle—this is the center of the role, not optional. Must have real experience delegating work to agents: writing specs, running multi-file changes, reviewing output critically
- Track record of building production-grade systems from the ground up, with deep understanding of working across large, long-lived codebases with many teams and history. Must understand how to get LLMs the right context to be useful in complex systems
- Genuine curiosity about developer experience and productivity; understanding that building a tool is only half the job—the other half is adoption through documentation, teaching, and hands-on collaboration
- Experience with evals, prompt and context engineering, or guardrails for autonomous agents is a strong plus
- Background in observability and quality (pre-LLM and measuring non-deterministic systems) is welcome
- Comfort with TypeScript is important; Ruby on Rails experience helps but is not required
- Note: candidates who don't meet every qualification but are excited about the role are encouraged to apply
