Clutch is Canada's largest online used car retailer, backed by top-tier investors including Canaan, D1 Capital, and Real Ventures. The company is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to lead the analytics and modeling work around its financial services offering—a critical new business line that helps customers understand affordability and financing options throughout their buying journey. In this role, you'll own the data strategy for Clutch's financing product from the ground up. Your work will be analysis-heavy initially, focused on understanding how customers engage with financing: where they start, where they drop off, and what drives them forward. You'll then build predictive models, analytical frameworks, and experimentation infrastructure to optimize the financing experience end-to-end. Key responsibilities include: - Conduct deep-dive analysis of buyer journey and financing funnel data to identify friction points and opportunities. - Build decision models that power a financing-first shopping experience, including pre-qualification flows and affordability guidance. - Develop predictive models for financing intent and readiness based on on-site behavior. - Own the pre-qualification funnel end-to-end: conversion rates, drop-off analysis, and impact on purchase decisions. - Model how down payment, trade-in value, and term choices influence customer decisions, and build tools for customers to explore trade-offs. - Design and analyze A/B tests to validate new financing presentation approaches. - Quantify financing's impact on key business metrics (conversion, order value, customer lifetime value) and recommend investment priorities. - Partner with data engineering and external financial services partners to build scalable data foundations and refine programs. This is an early-stage opportunity to shape a new product line at a fast-growing company. Your analysis will directly influence product roadmap decisions, and your work will be visible and measurable in both customer experience and business outcomes. REQUIREMENTS: Must Haves: - 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or in a highly analytical role, with a track record of driving real business decisions. - Decision modeling experience: proven ability to build models or frameworks that shaped real outcomes (e.g., customer guidance, content personalization, funnel optimization). - Strong SQL and Python skills; comfortable starting with messy data and ambiguous questions to reach clear answers. - Solid statistical fundamentals, experimentation experience, and disciplined validation approach. - Customer-centric mindset: care about how work shows up for end users, not just metrics moved. - Excellent communication: ability to explain complex trade-offs clearly to business leaders and articulate strong points of view. Nice to Have: - Experience in fintech, consumer finance, or auto finance. - E-commerce funnel, personalization, or customer journey analytics experience. - Experience deploying models to production. - Experience building new products or business lines from early stage.
