Optery helps people remove their personal data from broker sites. You'll join a fully remote team headquartered in San Francisco as a Senior Backend Engineer working directly with founders on product and technical direction.
In your first quarter, you'll own features end-to-end across our Django backend, which powers both the consumer dashboard and B2B platform. Work includes:
- Building new features for APIs powering the consumer dashboard and customer reporting
- Performance and reliability improvements in Celery and RabbitMQ pipelines
- Integrations with third-party services (Stripe, WorkOS SSO, identity providers)
- Code review on a small team of senior engineers
- Production support and debugging when features ship
You'll pick up real work in your first week without rigid onboarding phases. The tech stack is Python/Django with light frontend work (HTMX, occasional React). The team values ownership—if your code breaks in production, you investigate; if specs are unclear, you ask; if you spot issues in PRs, you flag them. Async-first coordination means clear writing in PR descriptions, Slack, and Jira is essential, though you'll also do real-time collaboration with US time zones.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years building production web applications
- 3+ years with Python and Django
- Working knowledge of CS fundamentals: data structures, concurrency, SQL, system design
- Strong written communication; comfortable working async across time zones
- Self-direction and follow-through
STRONG PLUS:
- DRF and/or django-ninja
- Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis in production
- Postgres tuning and query analysis
- Kubernetes and AWS
- Stripe, identity providers, or other third-party API integrations
- HTMX, React, or both
- Background in consumer privacy or adjacent industries
- Experience using AI coding assistants like Claude Code effectively
