Ramp is building smart financial infrastructure for businesses, automating how over $275B in annualized spend flows through 85,000+ companies. The company handles payment authorization, risk flagging, spend categorization, and book closing at scale. The Accounts Receivable team is building systems to automate the full receivables lifecycle: invoicing, collections, payments, cash application, and accounting sync. Currently, finance teams manually chase invoices over email, match payments to invoices in spreadsheets, and close books late due to scattered cash data across banks, payment processors, and ERPs. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own core pieces of the AR system, working at the intersection of hard engineering problems and real money. Your responsibilities include: - Build payment-matching systems that automatically apply incoming ACH, wire, card, and check payments to the right invoices, even with incomplete or inconsistent payment details - Design accurate data models where every dollar is traceable from invoice to payment to general ledger - Build two-way integrations with ERPs like NetSuite and QuickBooks that remain consistent through retries, partial failures, and edits on either side - Build collections workflows that help businesses get paid faster without damaging customer relationships - Own projects end-to-end from problem definition and technical design through launch, monitoring, and iteration - Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship - Work closely with product and design to turn complex finance workflows into reliable software You will have significant autonomy and ownership, making consequential decisions that shape outcomes. The role requires balancing speed, correctness, reliability, and simplicity in a high-stakes, data-dense environment. REQUIREMENTS: - Product sense: care about the customer problem, not just the ticket; push back when specs are wrong - Experience designing and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows - Strong system design judgment and ability to balance speed, correctness, reliability, and simplicity - Track record of independently owning complex projects and shipping high-quality software - Strong communication skills and collaborative approach to technical decisions NICE TO HAVES: - Experience with invoicing, billing, payments, accounting, or other financial workflows - Experience building integrations that keep data consistent across systems - Experience improving reliability and operational visibility in a growing product
