Salary: USD 115,000 - 200,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Senior 3D Print Optimization Engineer to join the Print Optimization Team in Boston. The team focuses on optimizing the intersection of hardware, software, and materials to deliver industry-leading print performance across Formlabs' SLA and SLS product lines.
In this role, you will drive continuous improvements in print performance by solving multi-disciplinary challenges. You'll work on making 3D printing faster, more reliable, easier to use, and more accurate for customers worldwide. The position is customer-focused: you'll start by understanding what performance improvements matter most and how many customers will benefit, then architect optimization methodologies and design efficient experiments to test underlying behaviors in complex systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Pushing the capabilities of SLA and SLS 3D printing platforms
- Architecting 3D printing optimization methodologies that improve printer performance
- Driving root cause analysis across mechanics, fluid dynamics, software, chemistry, optics, electronics, thermodynamics, and customer behavior
- Designing efficient experiments to isolate variables in complicated systems
- Tackling multi-disciplinary problems with hands-on problem-solving
- Developing and commercializing solutions that deliver immediate impact on customer print performance

Requirements:
- 5+ years of post-graduate experience
- Experience in test design where results impact product performance
- Shipped a product or process to end users
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in any science/engineering discipline
- Customer-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
- Hands-on approach willing to cross discipline boundaries
- Ability to work autonomously and learn new skills to achieve objectives
Bonus qualifications:
- Coding experience, ideally Python
- Computer-aided design (CAD) experience
- Understanding of material properties and characterization
- Participation in new product releases
