Standard Bots is building software to democratize real-world robotic automation. This SDET role is a senior individual contributor position focused on building and owning the test automation infrastructure that validates the company's software and hardware integration.
You will write production-quality test code that proves the software works before it reaches users. As an SDET, you are a developer first—you build the automated test suites and feature tests that the broader QA organization runs on. You will validate features in real time during sprints, working closely with engineers to catch and solve defects as they appear rather than after they become tickets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and owning automated test suites (end-to-end and integration tests)
- Validating features in real time during development sprints, partnering tightly with engineers
- Handing off maintainable, well-documented test code to Systems Test Engineers and supporting them as they extend it
- Building software-based mocks and simulators for hardware components (e.g., grippers) so testing isn't blocked by physical hardware availability
- Developing tooling and infrastructure that accelerates the entire QA organization
- Reviewing designs and pull requests for testability and pushing coverage upstream into development
You adopt a quality-first mindset: quality is the job itself, not a gate at the end. You value simplicity, reliability, and velocity equally. You treat every escaped defect as a process problem to fix and prefer preventing bugs to filing tickets about them.
The role is based in Glen Cove, NY, with a requirement to be in the robotics factory 5 days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience writing production-quality code daily in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar languages
- Deep experience in automated test infrastructure (Playwright, pytest, Jest) and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and systems thinking; comfortable debugging networked and distributed systems
- Collaboration skills; you enjoy pairing with developers and Systems Engineers
- Quality-first mindset and a developer-first approach to testing
- No robotics background required
NICE TO HAVE:
- Hardware-in-the-loop or system-level testing experience
- Embedded systems or real-time applications background
- Experience with ROS2, Docker, or robotics software stacks
