Velo3D is seeking a Process Engineer II/III to join their advanced manufacturing team in Fremont, CA. This role focuses on executing experiments, operating 3D printers, and conducting comprehensive post-build analysis to support qualification and production builds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute experiments independently: prepare printers, schedule print files, troubleshoot issues during printing, and analyze qualification builds post-print
- Perform detailed observations during experiments, document anomalies, and troubleshoot tool issues in real time
- Conduct post-build analysis including metrology measurements: visual inspection, surface roughness measurements, X-ray inspection, and metallographic analysis
- Analyze in-build metrology data to identify insights and action items for qualification builds
- Record all experimental data and prepare comprehensive summary presentations and reports
- Collaborate with applications team on first article and production builds; troubleshoot novel problems and document solutions
- Work with lab technicians to identify and resolve production bottlenecks
- Partner with hardware and software teams to validate new features and provide feedback
- Follow procedures for 3D printer operation and qualification build disposition
- Prepare and update SOPs, checklists, and analysis guides
- Participate in team meetings and other assigned duties
Physical Requirements:
Laboratory work requires steel-toed boots, protective eyewear, possible hearing protection, high-frequency computer keyboarding and monitor viewing, and other applicable PPE.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university
- 2+ years of prior experience in advanced manufacturing industry (recent graduates with extensive hands-on experience considered)
- High commitment to positive, fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
- Strong desire to work on disruptive technologies; high tolerance for ambiguity
- Creativity in problem-solving with ability to quantify problems and develop analytical solutions; proficient in data-driven decision-making
- Demonstrated discipline in approach and thought process
- Team-oriented and self-directed
- Hands-on experience collecting and analyzing samples using optical microscopy, 3D profilometers, and digital radiography
- High level of accountability
- Highly desirable: JMP experience
- Plus: Python or JSL scripting
- Plus: CAD experience (e.g., SolidWorks)
