Conga is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead platform identity and security services for its B2B Platform Engineering, Core Services team. You will own authentication, authorization, and access management capabilities that underpin all Conga B2B products, leading a team of 5–8 engineers while setting technical direction across the platform.
In this senior, hands-on role, you'll have influence beyond a single product team. You'll work in a highly connected environment supporting a large customer base, requiring rapid ramp-up, cross-group trust-building, and shaping shared security services used throughout Conga's platform ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as primary technical lead for platform-level security and identity services, including authentication and authorization systems.
• Lead design and development of mission-critical core services supporting cross-product identity, access control, tenant context, and security standards.
• Translate high-level architectural direction into detailed technical designs and production-ready implementations.
• Ensure platform services meet strict security, availability, performance, and reliability requirements.
• Partner with the Advantage Platform team to define and implement secure integration patterns between B2B and Advantage platforms.
• Define API contracts, authentication flows, authorization models, and tenant-context propagation across distributed systems.
• Coordinate cross-platform design, implementation, testing, release readiness, and operational support for shared authentication capabilities.
• Lead and mentor a team of 5–8 engineers; provide technical guidance to engineering groups beyond your own.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, threat modeling, and operational readiness.
• Raise the bar on secure coding practices and platform engineering discipline.
• Lead development in an Agile, CI/CD environment with strong emphasis on automation, testability, and observability.
• Work with Architecture and Product Security to implement and evolve security patterns, standards, and controls across the platform.
• Collaborate across B2B Platform, Advantage Platform, Architecture, Product Engineering, AI, and Product Security to deliver secure, reusable integrations.
• Translate strategic AI pillar objectives into secure, scalable platform capabilities reusable across products and AI experiences.
• Document decisions, dependencies, ownership, and operational responsibilities clearly across team boundaries.
• Lead incident investigation and resolution for security-sensitive services, including root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
• Engage directly with customers on support issues and escalations; work through conflicting priorities with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
• 8+ years of backend software engineering with a track record delivering enterprise SaaS services operating at scale and security-critical.
• 3+ years designing, building, or operating shared identity and platform-security services used by multiple products, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, token-based authentication, role and permission models, and policy-driven access control.
• 3+ years as a technical leader or senior contributor on shared platform or infrastructure services.
• Deep experience building backend systems in a modern language such as Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, Scala, or Rust.
• Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs used by multiple consumers.
• Solid experience with SQL and data stores supporting platform services.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, distributed systems, and platform tradeoffs.
• Experience leading complex initiatives end to end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
• Experience leading technical initiatives spanning multiple platforms, engineering organizations, and ownership boundaries.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers, and influencing teams you don't directly manage through collaboration and technical credibility.
• Experience translating strategic product or AI objectives into secure platform designs and executable delivery plans.
• Comfort in customer-facing work, including support, escalations, and resolving competing stakeholder perspectives.
• Strong communication skills and executive presence; ability to work effectively with Architecture, Security, Product, engineering leaders, customers, and junior engineers.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, plus containerized and orchestrated environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Azure SQL.
• Microservices experience and familiarity with cloud-native security patterns and service-to-service communication.
• Exposure to DevOps and SRE practices for platform services, including monitoring, alerting, and automation.
