Salary: USD 206,800 - 310,200 / annual
F5's AI Security team is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer to design and build low-latency, high-performance applications within a B2B SaaS multi-tenant architecture and self-hosted platform. You will lead the development of forward and reverse proxies, dynamic policy enforcement systems, and traffic interception/modification capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design and implementation of robust low-latency services and APIs with focus on scalable multi-tenant architectures
- Build and optimize forward and reverse proxies for performance and security
- Implement observability and monitoring tools for proactive performance management
- Leverage AI development tools and agentic frameworks to accelerate coding, testing, and problem-solving while maintaining quality and security
- Guide and mentor junior developers, take initiative in architectural decisions, and foster collaborative team environment
- Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance system architectures and development practices
This is a high-impact individual contributor role at the principal level, requiring someone who can operate with minimal guidance, drive architectural decisions, and elevate team capabilities through mentorship and technical leadership.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record as a Go developer with experience in low-latency applications and multi-tenant B2B SaaS architectures
- Experience developing forward and reverse proxies (highly desirable)
- Expertise in Go programming with proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
- Strong understanding of network protocols and concepts
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools
- Hands-on experience with AI development tools and integrating AI assistance into development workflows
- Experience with agentic frameworks and context engineering for AI-assisted development (highly desirable)
- Experience with public API design and engineering (beneficial)
- Familiarity with LLMs as a product domain—embeddings, RAG architectures, prompt engineering (a plus)
- Ability to lead projects with minimal guidance and excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical mindset for deciphering complex systems and improving efficiency
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
