Ramp is building smart infrastructure for finance teams, automating how over $200B in annualized spend flows through 70,000+ companies. The company handles payment authorization, risk flagging, spend categorization, and financial close processes for ambitious businesses.
As Principal Brand Designer, you will define the brand design system that takes Ramp into new futures. This is a leadership individual contributor role where you own problems end-to-end and make consequential decisions that shape outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Set creative direction by translating business goals and audience insights into clear brand ideas
- Lead company-defining projects including campaigns, launches, and brand experiences from conception to completion
- Establish and maintain quality standards for typography, imagery, layout, and brand design across the organization
- Build and evolve the brand system over time, balancing coherency with flexibility (described as "jazz-like" behavior)
- Connect brand and product work across product, marketing, and engineering to ensure company coherence
- Mentor team members and develop a culture of collaboration, creativity, and trust
- Tell stories that drive alignment with partners, helping them understand thinking and make practical scope/timing decisions
You will work cross-functionally with product, marketing, GTM, growth, and engineering teams. You understand each function's accountability and outcomes and can speak their language. You are a player-coach who raises the quality of team work while maintaining high creative standards.
Ramp's median customer saves 5% on costs and grows revenue 16% in their first year. The company hires people with high agency and urgency, valuing what you've built over where you trained.
Requirements:
- Deep portfolio demonstrating brand identities, marketing campaigns, brand-to-product experiences, and digital applications with clear explanation of your contribution
- Excellent design fundamentals and ability to carry ideas through to finished work
- Experience leading complex projects independently and making good decisions when briefs are still forming
- Ability to negotiate, compromise, and understand trade-offs with executives and cross-functional partners
- Ability to connect creative choices to audience, product, and business outcomes
- Record of helping other designers improve and working well across disciplines
- Experience in both agency and in-house environments
- Familiarity with AI tooling and agents for exploration, iteration, and ideation
- Side projects or hobbies demonstrating learning mindset and enthusiasm for design's future
- Portfolio that reveals your growth story, interests, and curiosities
- Humble, thoughtful, and self-aware approach to work
