H1 is seeking a Principal Analyst for Clinical Data Ingestion to lead the strategy and governance of clinical data powering their healthcare intelligence platform. This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on defining which clinical datasets to acquire, how they are structured and interpreted, and how they meet quality and trustworthiness standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define clinical data acquisition strategy: prioritize sources and decide whether to build, buy, or partner
- Serve as subject matter expert on clinical data content including standards of care, drug lists, study start-up times, regulatory cycle times, and CTMS data
- Specify how each dataset should be modeled, normalized, and mapped to standard vocabularies; document business rules and definitions
- Set and enforce data quality standards (completeness, accuracy, freshness, consistency); review source data and ingested output
- Partner with data engineering on ingestion requirements and source onboarding; hold engineering accountable to quality outcomes (but do not own pipeline build or operations)
- Evaluate and onboard data partners and vendors, assessing coverage, provenance, and fitness for use
- Work cross-functionally with product teams to prioritize data sources and ensure ingested data supports product use cases and customer needs
- Collaborate with legal, privacy, and compliance on data-use terms and de-identification requirements
- Influence the data roadmap and represent clinical data expertise to leadership, customers, and external partners
You will be a thought leader and trusted advisor, working with influence across engineering, product, data science, and commercial teams. The role emphasizes setting requirements and quality standards while partnering closely with engineers who build and operate the pipelines.
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of experience in clinical, healthcare, or life sciences data, with deep hands-on expertise in clinical trial operations data and real-world clinical data
- Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following data domains (all preferred):
* Standards of care: clinical guidelines and treatment pathways (e.g., NCCN, ASCO, specialty society guidelines) and how they map to real-world practice
* Drug lists: formularies, drug compendia, and reference lists (e.g., NDC, RxNorm, ATC), including brand/generic and indication mapping
* Study start-up times: site identification, contracting, IRB/ethics approval, and activation timelines across sites and countries
* Regulatory cycle times: submission-to-approval timelines across agencies and regions (e.g., FDA, EMA, PMDA, NMPA)
* CTMS data: sites, enrollment, milestones, monitoring, and operational performance
- Working knowledge of clinical and coding standards (e.g., OMOP, FHIR, HL7, ICD-10, CPT, NDC, LOINC, SNOMED) and data quality frameworks
- Track record of defining data requirements and quality standards that engineering teams build against
- Experience evaluating and working with external data vendors and partners
- Ability to partner with product teams to link data sources to product value and prioritize accordingly
- Ability to explain complex clinical data topics clearly to executives, engineers, and customers
- Hands-on comfort with SQL or equivalent to profile, validate, and investigate data issues
PREFERRED
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field; advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, MPH, PhD) a plus
- Background at a pharma, CRO, healthcare data, or health-tech company
- Experience with CTMS, EDC, or clinical operations platforms
- Familiarity with entity resolution, master data management, or AI/ML-assisted data mapping and validation
- Experience mentoring or informally leading cross-functional teams without direct reports
