Inflection AI is a Public Benefit Corporation building emotionally intelligent AI systems. Pi, their flagship product, is a personal AI agent powered by Inflection AI's foundation model, designed to help people work through decisions, emotions, and challenges.
As a Member of Technical Staff, Backend, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend software systems and infrastructure that support scalable enterprise applications and conversational AI platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend software services and APIs to support production applications
• Build and operate distributed systems that support real-time data processing, system workflows, and application integrations
• Develop and maintain cloud-based and containerized backend infrastructure to ensure system scalability, reliability, and availability
• Implement data storage, retrieval, and caching solutions using relational and non-relational databases
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (applied research, product management, frontend engineering, infrastructure) to translate functional requirements into backend implementations
• Develop internal tools, pipelines, and automation frameworks to support CI/CD, system monitoring, and operational efficiency
• Monitor system performance and reliability; troubleshoot and resolve production issues; implement improvements to meet performance, uptime, and latency requirements
• Participate in incident response activities, including on-call rotations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
• Ensure backend systems comply with security, data protection, and access control requirements
• Document system architecture, design decisions, and operational procedures
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related field, plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in software engineering or backend systems development
• OR Master's degree plus 3 years of experience (employer will accept this alternative)
• Required experience must include: developing, testing, and maintaining backend software services and APIs for production applications; designing and implementing distributed systems for scalable, high-availability applications; working with relational and/or non-relational databases; deploying and operating backend systems in cloud-based or containerized environments; monitoring, debugging, and resolving production issues; collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
