Salary: USD 160,000 - 280,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and develop a rapidly growing team of mechanical engineers working on next-generation 3D printing technology. The company's 3D printers power innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will spend most of your time as an active contributor in product development while managing a team of talented mechanical engineers. You'll help the team navigate design tradeoffs and ship industry-leading products, constantly questioning product assumptions and scoping mechanical engineering work to focus on what is critical to customer success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Actively contribute to product development alongside your team
- Help navigate design tradeoffs and ensure the team ships the industry's best products
- Drive the team to hit program milestones and work with cross-functional leaders to develop products more efficiently
- Hire top mechanical engineering talent and help them reach their highest potential
- Continuously improve the results and outputs of the mechanical engineering function
- Influence product strategy and how the Hardware Engineering function operates holistically
- Communicate fluidly across technical domains and make decisions with incomplete information
Formlabs' 3D printers are mechanical engineering marvels featuring precise, clever mechanisms that drive tightly integrated systems. Products are designed for high-volume production while maintaining beautiful aesthetics and accessible pricing. Mechanical engineers work on the entire product lifecycle—from initial concept through final production ECOs—with rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration cycles.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in the design and production of complex mechanical systems
- Track record of shipping multiple products from concept through production
- Demonstrated ability to help engineers reach their highest potential and build high-performing teams
- Fluent communication across technical domains
- Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and ownership mindset
- Ability to dive into unfamiliar territory and problem-solve effectively
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to tie technical work to customer value
- Impatience with inertia and strong execution skills
- Never satisfied with the status quo
