Focused Energy is an international deep-tech company developing laser-driven nuclear fusion technology to commercialize clean, safe, and virtually unlimited energy. The company is rapidly scaling and seeking a Mechanical Engineer to produce high-quality mechanical models, drawings, and engineering documentation across its projects.
In this hands-on role, you will translate design intent into accurate, well-structured CAD outputs that support manufacturing, supplier engagement, assembly, and project delivery. You'll work across technically demanding systems including laser systems, vacuum equipment, diagnostic mounting structures, and facility mechanical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent CAD tools
- Produce manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, layout models, parts lists, BOMs, and drawing registers to high engineering standards
- Maintain and update CAD models and documentation as designs evolve throughout the project lifecycle
- Support design and development of mechanical systems such as vacuum chambers, laser system integration, and diagnostic structures
- Identify and resolve design clashes, interface issues, documentation gaps, and inconsistencies within CAD assemblies
- Prepare complete drawing packages and technical documentation for supplier quotation, manufacture, and design reviews
- Review supplier drawings and documentation, support resolution of technical queries, and communicate design status clearly
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and systems engineers to support integration activities and maintain accurate assembly models
You are a detail-oriented mechanical engineer with a methodical approach to CAD modeling and document control. You can manage multiple drawing and documentation tasks across concurrent projects while maintaining quality and delivery focus. You communicate clearly with senior engineers, suppliers, manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams. You proactively identify design risks and documentation gaps, take ownership of your outputs, and follow through on revisions and design updates. You are comfortable in collaborative engineering environments and committed to applying engineering standards and CAD conventions consistently.
Desirable experience includes: vacuum systems, chambers, precision mechanical assemblies, laser or optical system integration, scientific instrumentation, PDM/PLM systems, CAD data management, design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), GD&T, ISO/DIN drawing standards, and work in experimental physics, research, or advanced engineering environments.
