Xcimer Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of advanced laser amplifier systems for inertial fusion energy (IFE) applications. This is a hands-on engineering role combining design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create 3D CAD models, detail part drawings, assemblies, P&IDs, and interface control documents
- Design structures and pressure vessels; perform proof-tests to code standards
- Collaborate with mechanical, systems, laser, optical, and manufacturing teams on design communication and documentation
- Support procurement of hardware for prototype laser amplifiers and optical conditioning equipment
- Select sensors and instruments; coordinate with controls team for integration
- Oversee and assist assembly by interdisciplinary technician teams
- Support ongoing operation of equipment and systems
- Participate in concept studies for power-producing IFE reactor applications
- Author work instructions, test plans, specifications, and system integration documentation
- Provide manufacturing and production support for first-time engineering builds
- Participate in design reviews and process improvement initiatives
- Collaborate on material selection, manufacturing processes, and supplier qualification
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct tests; review and analyze test data
- Maintain and report on activity schedules, budgets, and technical status
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings
- Support scaling of amplifier designs toward power-producing reactor requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience with focus on industrial equipment design (preferred industries: semiconductor, solar, R&D, nuclear, fusion energy, lasers, defense)
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX preferred)
- Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Demonstrated experience taking design projects from concept through build and qualification
- Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on approach to troubleshooting and testing
- U.S. citizenship, national status, permanent residency (Green Card), or lawful refugee/asylum status required
- Start-up experience preferred
- Interdisciplinary engineering experience is a plus
