Salary: USD 75,000 - 142,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Materials Scientist to join its materials development team. The company builds 3D printing technology used by over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will conduct research and develop world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations through validation and commercialization. You'll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on Formlabs hardware. Your responsibilities include designing and performing experiments, using results to inform materials performance improvements, and partnering with product management and engineering teams to continuously enhance the materials portfolio.
You'll work in a dynamic, hands-on environment where you balance speed with scientific rigor. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of materials science and polymer development fundamentals, and a passion for rigorous testing and troubleshooting. You should be comfortable working autonomously, taking initiative to learn new skills, and collaborating with a diverse group of scientists and engineers. Strong data analysis capabilities and attention to documentation are essential.
Bonus skills include experience developing materials for 3D printing (especially SLA/DLP or SLS printers), 3D CAD modeling, and programming skills (Python, Matlab, SQL, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field
- Solid understanding of materials science and polymer development fundamentals
- Experience designing and conducting rigorous experiments
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
