Salary: USD 75,000 - 142,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Materials Scientist to join its materials development team. The company builds 3D printing technology used by over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, and NASA, to design, prototype, and manufacture physical products faster.
In this role, you will conduct research and develop world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations through validation and commercialization. You'll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on Formlabs hardware. Your responsibilities include designing and performing experiments, using results to inform materials performance improvements, and partnering with product management and engineering teams to continuously enhance the materials portfolio.
You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you balance scientific rigor with speed. The role requires someone who is a creative problem-solver, passionate about testing and troubleshooting, and comfortable working autonomously while taking initiative to learn new skills. You should have a solid understanding of materials science fundamentals and polymer development, love harnessing data to design rigorous experiments, and value good documentation practices.

**Requirements:**
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field
- Solid understanding of materials science and polymer development fundamentals
- Experience designing and conducting rigorous experiments
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
- Strong documentation practices
**Bonus Skills:**
- Experience developing materials for 3D printing, especially SLA/DLP or SLS printers
- 3D CAD modeling
- Programming skills (Python, Matlab, SQL, etc.)
