Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving using an end-to-end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. The company is pioneering mapless, hardware-agnostic technology that adapts, generalizes and improves at scale.
As a Machine Learning Engineer on the Application Software team, you will lead critical initiatives to design and deliver ML-driven behaviors that scale from assisted to autonomous driving. Your work will span model architecture, data pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and real-world deployment. You'll work closely with AI Platform, Simulation, Robot Software, and Model Release teams to build systems that are performant, adaptable, and production-ready.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Developing and improving end-to-end driving models, advancing their performance, robustness and generalization
- Leading technical initiatives in personalized and collaborative driving, including behavior conditioning, comfort tuning, and alignment with user preferences
- Building evaluation pipelines and metrics to assess open-loop and closed-loop driving performance and product readiness
- Curating and mining real-world and synthetic data to improve scenario diversity, coverage, and feature-specific development
- Collaborating across engineering teams to integrate models, accelerate iteration, and support real-world deployment
- Mentoring senior engineers, driving technical alignment, and influencing architecture, training, and deployment decisions
Key focus areas include advancing end-to-end driving intelligence, developing personalization and collaboration features, creating evaluation frameworks for driving quality and robustness, leveraging data-driven approaches for model improvement, shaping production-scale learning systems, and providing technical leadership across cross-team initiatives.
Wayve operates a hybrid working model combining in-person collaboration in dedicated office spaces with focused remote work. The company has main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. This role is based in Sunnyvale, CA or Detroit, MI.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive, proven track record of shipping deep learning systems to production
- Deep expertise in deep learning, particularly sequential models, control, planning, or perception
- Proficiency in Python; experience with C++ or CUDA; confident using ML frameworks, especially PyTorch
- Strong foundation in software engineering practices and experience building reliable, maintainable ML systems
- Experience with real-time systems or robotics, ideally including simulation-in-the-loop or vehicle-in-the-loop components
- Ability to lead technical initiatives across teams, build alignment, and mentor engineers
Desirable experience includes autonomous driving, imitation learning, trajectory prediction, personalization, human behavior modeling, driver intent inference, and integrating ML systems into production hardware or multi-agent simulation.
