Factbird helps manufacturers extract actionable insights from live production data through plug-and-play hardware and cloud platforms. The Engineering Services team solves the hardest technical problems that fall outside standard product and support scope—the integration challenges, feasibility questions, and cross-domain issues that require deep expertise. In this role, you will be a hands-on Senior IoT Solutions Engineer responsible for: **Pre-Sales & Feasibility:** Answer technical feasibility questions from Sales and Solution Consultants about connecting legacy machines, PLCs, sensors, and complex customer environments. Work directly with customer technical teams to validate requirements and design approaches. **Design & Build:** Create custom solutions including logic boxes, signal converters, IO-Link modules, EDGE flows, and Factbird-powered OMRON NX1 programs that bridge gaps the core platform cannot yet address. Design full integrations by mapping OT/IT environments, planning data sources, tag structures, transformations, and security. **Integration & Protocols:** Integrate customer systems through Kepware, Ignition, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and Node-RED. Troubleshoot site networks (IP setup, routers, SIMs, firewalls) and perform root cause analysis across hardware, networks, and software in live production. **Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:** Document all solutions, configurations, and fixes through Solution Records, runbooks, and wiring guides. Version and back up configurations. Share knowledge with Support, Solution Consultants, and Hardware teams to empower them to handle more independently. **Continuous Improvement:** Identify repeat work and clunky processes; build templates and scripts to streamline delivery. Turn repeat workarounds into product input with business cases. Participate in customer and prospect calls as the technical voice. **Bench Testing & Logistics:** Test hardware end-to-end before shipment, including failure recovery and restarts. Hand off to Logistics with clear packing lists. You are an experienced industrial automation engineer comfortable with both hands-on troubleshooting and technical documentation. You work systematically through ambiguous problems, take high ownership, and prioritize without daily supervision. You love being the expert while equally enjoying teaching others and simplifying complex answers for stakeholders. **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience - Minimum 5 years in industrial automation or controls engineering with hands-on shop floor work (7+ years preferred) - Hands-on PLC experience with at least one major vendor (Siemens, Omron, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley) - Solid understanding of industrial protocols: OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, MQTT - Working knowledge of sensors and signals: digital, analog (4–20 mA, 0–10 V), IO-Link, PNP/NPN, energy metering - Root cause analysis capability across hardware, networks, and software in live production - Field experience commissioning or troubleshooting equipment in live plants - Comfortable troubleshooting site networks: IP setup, routers, SIMs, firewalls - Clear English communication; ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers - Strong documentation discipline
