GPTZero is hiring an Investigations Engineer to join its research and investigations team in NYC. The role sits at the intersection of AI detection, investigative journalism, and data engineering. You'll build and operate the research engine that identifies undisclosed hallucinations and AI-generated content across the web, synthesizing findings into front-page investigations published in major outlets like the Financial Times, Forbes, and Bloomberg. Key responsibilities include: using GPTZero's AI detection and hallucination models to surface compelling examples of AI-generated content; building web-scale data pipelines and targeted crawlers for document collection; creating search engine query generators and social media monitoring automations; developing ML ranking and classification systems to detect fabricated content; synthesizing data into well-written reports, visualizations, and interactive experiences; and iterating on detection models based on real-world performance across new domains. You'll work directly with the CTO (ex-Uber, Facebook, ML researcher), AI research lead (PhD, ex-AWS), and CEO (ex-Bellingcat, Microsoft, BBC investigative journalism). The broader team includes engineers from Google, Meta, Microsoft, Bloomberg, and leading AI labs. Required qualifications: 2+ years Python experience building resilient data pipelines; 1+ years SQL (PostgreSQL preferred); data analysis and visualization skills; web scraping and search-at-scale experience; basic AWS cloud infrastructure knowledge; and an entrepreneurial mindset for identifying newsworthy findings. Bonus skills include web development, applied ML for ranking, infrastructure-as-code, OSINT, and media/journalism experience. The company is venture-backed, category-defining, and mission-driven around restoring trust and transparency on the internet.
