Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for major customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft.
As Head of Engineering for Financial Data Experience, you will own the customer-facing model of money movement for merchants, regulators, and Adyen Finance. You will ensure that financial data accurately reflects merchant entities and periods rather than mirroring internal systems, and you will own how that data is delivered through datasets, reports, files, and dashboards on consistent terms across all publishing teams.
You will report to the SVP of Engineering and collaborate with peers across Payments, Financial Products, Platform, Compliance, and Finance. Your responsibilities include:
- Owning the customer-facing model of money movement and ensuring data integrity and accuracy
- Defining how financial data is delivered across multiple formats and channels
- Building and managing a high-performing engineering organization (ideally 25-50 engineers), including managing managers
- Creating an environment that fosters continuous innovation and sets exemplary engineering culture
- Developing and hiring great people with the right skills
- Balancing robust scalability with execution of complex, cross-stream technical projects
- Staying close enough to technology to judge designs yourself
- Translating complex technical concepts into clear language for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Streamlining engineering operations and refining product requirements with product and merchants
- Driving simplicity, standards, and reuse across the organization
You will work in a highly collaborative manner both internally and externally, with exceptional prioritization skills and accountability for key project execution. The role bridges Adyen's internal ledger complexity and the unified, customer-facing money movement experience, with the goal of delivering an automated, self-serve, trustworthy experience.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership capacity, including experience as a manager of managers
- Experience hiring and managing a sizeable engineering organization (ideally 25-50 engineers), including managing managers
- Literacy in financial data: ledgers, cut-offs, corrections, restatements, FX, fee attribution. Must have worked in environments where numbers represent obligations rather than metrics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for diverse audiences (technical, non-technical, merchants, vendors, internal stakeholders)
- Experience delivering through platforms you did not control and obtaining needed resources without direct authority
- Comfort with streamlining engineering operations and refining product requirements collaboratively
- Preference for simplicity, comfort with uncertainty, and strong execution orientation
- Curiosity about merchant challenges and empathy for solving problems that benefit all merchants
- Comfort with role boundaries still being defined; preference for helping draw them rather than waiting
This is an office-first role based in Amsterdam with a focus on in-person collaboration.
