Level Zero Health is a venture-backed biosensor startup pioneering next-generation technology for real-time monitoring of critical endocrine biomarkers. Recognized as a top 20 startup at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024 and backed by redalpine, SOSV, and Entrepreneur First, the company is transforming personalized health monitoring by delivering clinical-grade data directly to individuals.
You will take technical ownership of the electronics platform powering the company's next-generation biosensor medical devices. Working closely with the founding team and a multidisciplinary engineering group (firmware, mechanical, optical, systems), you will translate product goals into robust architectures and executable development plans, shepherding designs from early concept through prototypes, verification, and release.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the electronics architecture for the medical device, driving development from concept through prototype, verification, and product release
- Designing mixed-signal electronic systems integrating optical modules, battery management, power electronics, motor drivers, user interface electronics, and supporting sensors
- Performing schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design using tools like Altium Designer, selecting components and integrating commercial modules into robust designs
- Developing and validating battery charging, power management, and low-power system architectures for portable medical devices
- Designing interfaces for miniature cameras, LEDs, pumps, motors, and user interface hardware (buttons, indicators, status LEDs)
- Bringing up, debugging, and validating prototype hardware using laboratory test equipment; identifying root causes and implementing design improvements
- Collaborating with firmware, mechanical, optical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless hardware integration
- Planning and scoping electronics development activities, identifying technical risks, defining priorities, and estimating work for project milestones
- Owning electronics design documentation including schematics, design calculations, test plans, verification reports, and manufacturing documentation
- Leading electronics risk management activities, maintaining Design FMEAs, and supporting system-level risk analysis
- Working with PCB manufacturers, assembly houses, and component suppliers on prototype builds, DFM, and DFT
- Identifying and establishing laboratory equipment, software tools, suppliers, and development processes to build a world-class electronics function
- Contributing as a hands-on individual contributor while helping shape future electronics capability as the team grows
Requirements:
- Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronic Engineering or closely related discipline
- 3–5 years' industry experience developing electronic products from concept through prototype and into manufacture
- Strong experience designing mixed-signal electronic systems (analogue, digital, power electronics)
- Proficiency with schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design using Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD package
- Experience selecting components, designing circuits, and integrating commercially available modules into complete systems
- Experience designing battery-powered embedded systems including battery charging, power regulation, and power management
- Experience designing interfaces for motors, pumps, LEDs, cameras, sensors, and other peripheral devices
- Strong hardware debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power analysers, and laboratory equipment
- Experience with PCB bring-up, fault finding, and hardware verification
- Understanding of EMC/EMI, signal integrity, and design for reliability
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and supporting PCB assembly and prototype builds
- Experience planning technical work, managing electronics risks, and taking ownership of engineering deliverables
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Proactive mindset with willingness to take ownership of challenging technical problems
Nice to have:
- Experience developing electronics for medical devices or regulated products
- Experience with optical systems (cameras, LEDs, photodiodes, imaging hardware)
- Experience designing motor driver circuits or fluidic/pump control systems
- Experience with USB, USB-C, or battery charging ICs
- Familiarity with embedded firmware development and debugging
- Knowledge of Design FMEA, Risk Management, and Design Verification in regulated product development
- Experience supporting DFM, DFA, and DFT
- Familiarity with standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 62304, or ISO 14971
- Experience working closely with external PCB manufacturers, assembly partners, and component suppliers
- Prior work in a startup or small company environment
