OpenAI is building a new Monetization Platform team within Growth to evolve how people access and pay for AI as capabilities expand. The platform sits at the intersection of product experience, platform architecture, and business strategy—turning complex pricing, eligibility, entitlements, usage, and subscription logic into reliable capabilities that product teams can build on. You will define and build shared pricing and packaging capabilities, including plan configuration, eligibility, entitlement integrations, and usage allowances. You'll create intuitive plan and usage experiences across the full stack, connecting polished interfaces to product APIs and backend services. Working with Product, Design, Finance, Financial Engineering, and Data Science, you'll turn new commercial ideas into working prototypes and experiments, then use learnings to guide iteration. Key responsibilities include designing integrations with Financial Engineering that preserve correct access and subscription state through plan changes, migrations, asynchronous updates, and partial failures. You'll build reusable components and configuration tools that let teams launch offerings with less custom engineering. You'll take responsibility for production quality through migration planning, staged rollouts, testing, monitoring, and recovery paths. You'll also shape the technical roadmap, make clear tradeoffs between immediate launches and shared foundations, and develop other engineers through code and design reviews. This role offers substantial ownership over technical decisions and delivery in an area where the roadmap is still taking shape. Your impact will show up in the experiences you ship, the engineering work you eliminate from future launches, and the opportunities your systems make possible. REQUIREMENTS: - Demonstrated experience setting architectural direction and delivering significant projects involving multiple teams, while remaining an active code contributor - Depth in backend or distributed systems with ability to work across APIs and interfaces that turn systems into useful products - Rigorous reasoning about data models, lifecycle transitions, consistency, concurrency, and failure scenarios - Experience taking loosely defined customer or business problems through discovery, implementation, and production operation - Product intuition combined with experimentation and analysis; care about whether customers understand and benefit from what you build - Comfort establishing new capabilities: choosing initial design, shipping something useful, and improving as the problem becomes clearer - Ability to build alignment across disciplines, explain technical choices clearly, and help teammates take on greater responsibility - Experience with pricing, subscriptions, entitlements, usage-based products, billing integrations, or growth platforms is especially valuable (though engineers with experience building demanding product or platform systems are welcome to learn this domain)
