Bókun, a Tripadvisor company, is seeking a Front-end Software Engineer to join its Reykjavik office. Bókun develops booking management software for tour and activity operators worldwide, helping businesses increase bookings and streamline operations.
In this role, you will build user-facing interfaces used by thousands of travel operators globally. The work balances new feature development with modernization of legacy UI components in a mature codebase. You'll work hands-on as an individual contributor, spending most of your time writing code rather than in meetings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building interfaces for the booking management platform and operator mobile app
- Collaborating end-to-end with product, design, and backend teams to ship features from concept to production
- Refactoring and modernizing existing code to pay down technical debt
- Contributing to architectural decisions and guiding frontend platform direction
- Working with REST APIs and across the full stack
The tech stack includes TypeScript, React, Tailwind CSS, TanStack Query & Router, Next.js, and React Native on the frontend. Backend uses Java, Play Framework, MySQL, OpenSearch, Redis, and Amazon SQS. All engineers have access to Claude Code and other AI coding assistants as part of daily development.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of professional experience
- Proficiency in TypeScript and React
- Strong focus on user experience and visual polish
- Fluent English communication (working language)
Nice to have:
- Experience with modern CSS approaches (Tailwind)
- Familiarity with Next.js or React Native
- Comfortable working with REST APIs and across the stack
- Background in travel, e-commerce, or marketplace platforms
