GripFusion is building next-generation sports performance technology using Tactile Intelligence—hardware and software that captures and visualizes how athletes grip, throw, and swing. As a Forward-Deployed Software Engineer, you will expand GripFusion's product across multiple surfaces: the ForceBall hardware device, iPad app, mobile app, and web dashboard. You report to the Head of Software and work as a product-facing engineer embedded with players, coaches, and team staff to understand how they use tactile data in real training and competition contexts.
You will own full-stack development across the entire product ecosystem. On the mobile side, you'll extend and harden the primary iPad app (React Native on AWS backend, already in use by MLB/NCAA teams), build a new mobile app that communicates directly with the ForceBall hardware via Bluetooth, and develop a React web dashboard for coaches to review sessions, compare athletes, and share insights. You'll invent novel visualizations—including 3D graphics—that make tactile and athlete performance data intuitive and actionable. You'll also integrate GripFusion with the systems teams already use (CRM, analytics platforms, etc.) so the product fits naturally into existing workflows, and you'll help establish shared design patterns and components across the baseball and golf platforms.
Key responsibilities include: working across the full stack from BLE device communication and cloud services to mobile and web interfaces; partnering directly with players, coaches, and team staff to understand user needs; balancing rapid prototyping and discovery with production-level engineering, testing, and deployment; collaborating with design, embedded, and data science teams to shape user experience and define device data transmission protocols; visiting MLB teams to test with athletes and coaches and bring product insights back to the engineering team; and using AI development tools daily to accelerate shipping.
This is a high-impact role in a startup building a new category. You will have direct access to leadership, shape product direction across baseball and golf, and influence how an AI-first engineering team operates.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years shipping production software across mobile and web, ideally with React Native, React, and TypeScript
- Full-stack experience including cloud backends on AWS, CI/CD, and release pipelines
- Track record of working directly with clients, users, or stakeholders to shape product
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools and agentic workflows
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Preferred: experience with hardware systems, Bluetooth/device data transmission, device state diagrams, offline-first mobile architecture, on-device data analysis, data visualization or 3D graphics (three.js, WebGL, React Three Fiber), third-party API integrations
- Desired profile: owner mentality, product and design thinking, athlete background (competed or coached), excellent communication, AI-first mindset
