AssemblyAI builds best-in-class Voice AI models powering the next generation of voice applications. The company processes 1M+ hours of audio daily, serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, and powers 2B+ end-user experiences. As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Triage team, you will own a book of customer accounts up to $50K annually, serving as the technical owner for their integration and support needs. Your primary responsibilities include:
• Own customer accounts: Diagnose and resolve integration issues quickly, identify growth opportunities, and route commercial conversations to the Portfolio team.
• Build and manage AI agents: Develop and iterate on internal agents for customer support and operations, including the customer-facing chat agent. You'll own agent quality and continuously improve their performance.
• Handle escalations: When the chat agent cannot resolve an issue, it escalates to you. Solve the customer problem, then improve the agent to handle similar cases independently in the future.
• Drive product improvements: File well-evidenced bugs and feature requests with Engineering and Research teams. Translate customer feedback into actionable product changes.
• Improve developer experience: Enhance documentation and SDKs based on customer pain points and confusion patterns.
Most work happens asynchronously in Slack, collaborating directly with customers and internal teams. This role is a gateway to larger customer portfolios and strategic accounts; engineers who excel here typically move into the Portfolio and Strategic teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 2+ years in a technical, customer-facing role (solutions engineering, technical support, developer relations, or software development). 1 year considered for candidates with strong solutions background.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language; Python preferred.
• Daily hands-on experience with coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, or similar), with shipped projects demonstrating context management and output validation before customer delivery.
• Experience with REST APIs and ability to read and debug customer code.
• Strong written communication skills (critical for Slack-based work).
• Ability to map customer use cases to API capabilities.
NICE TO HAVE:
• Built agents or automations that others rely on.
• SQL experience.
• Background with speech, audio, or voice AI products.
