First Resonance builds ION Factory OS, an operating system for advanced manufacturing facilities serving aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and clean energy sectors. The company's customers build rockets, satellites, eVTOLs, and other complex hardware products. As Forward Deployed Engineer for Integrations, you will own the end-to-end integration strategy and execution that transforms ION from one more tool into the system of record for how customers manage their manufacturing operations. This is currently the single biggest lever on customer time-to-value. Your responsibilities include: - Own customer integrations completely: discovery, requirements gathering, architecture design, estimation, implementation, testing, go-live, documentation, and handoff to support. - Translate how customers actually manage parts, BOMs, purchase orders, receipts, inventory, work orders, quality, and engineering changes into production-ready technical designs. - Make build-versus-partner decisions: determine when to implement directly, reuse existing connectors, enable customer teams, or engage systems integration partners. You scope work, set acceptance criteria, review quality, and hold delivery. - Ensure production reliability through monitoring, alerting, retries, reconciliation, auditability, and incident response for mission-critical integrations. - Convert one-off implementations into reusable connectors, reference architectures, test harnesses, runbooks, and documentation to reduce cost and time for future integrations. - Provide platform feedback to Product and Engineering teams, identifying gaps in ION's APIs, eventing, and data models. - Collaborate daily with Forward Deployed Engineering, Customer Success, Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, plus direct customer engineering and IT teams. You will sometimes write code yourself and sometimes direct internal engineers or external systems integration partners—the outcome is always yours. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years in customer-facing or delivery-oriented engineering (solutions architecture, integration engineering, forward deployed engineering, or technical consulting) where you shipped production code. - Demonstrated experience taking at least one complex enterprise integration from initial vague conversation through reliable production operation. - Deep expertise in API-based integration: REST or GraphQL, webhooks, authentication protocols, async processing, data transformation, plus distributed-systems fundamentals (idempotency, ordering, retries, reconciliation, observability). - Ability to sit with manufacturing or IT teams, interpret ambiguous process descriptions, and deliver a scoped technical plan. - Clear written and verbal communication skills to explain architecture, tradeoffs, and risks to both staff engineers and VP-level stakeholders. NICE TO HAVE: - Manufacturing systems experience (ERP, PLM, MES, procurement, finance, warehouse platforms): NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics 365, Teamcenter, Arena, Duro, SolidWorks PDM. - Integration platforms or middleware: Prismatic, Boomi, MuleSoft, Workato, Informatica. - Track record building connectors, SDKs, or developer documentation used by others. - Familiarity with enterprise security and deployment constraints: SSO/OAuth, audit requirements, regulated or on-premise environments, restricted networks. - Background in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing.
