As a Flight Test Engineer, you will report to the Head of Flight Test & Safety and play a central role in shaping flight test strategy and execution across the company. You will work with stakeholders, program managers, and customers to define test requirements, create comprehensive test plans, and execute flight test campaigns. Key responsibilities include:
- Actively engage with Applied Intuition stakeholders and Program Managers to determine test requirements and create test plans
- Engage with current customers to ensure test success and maintain positive relationships
- Ensure flight test programs are adequately staffed and resourced
- Provide subject-matter expertise and operator knowledge to technical teams
- Engage with DoD warfighter domain experts and third-party UAS vehicle vendors to develop solutions to challenging problems
- Develop partnerships with test ranges to secure access for flight test campaigns
- Deploy into different company verticals to maintain awareness of their needs and plan/execute/report on flight test projects
- Author clear test plans, test reports, hazard analyses, quick-look reports, checklists, and test cards
- Lead test plan working groups, test reviews, and safety reviews
- Run test missions as a test conductor or test director
Applied Intuition maintains offices in Sunnyvale (HQ), Washington D.C., San Diego, Fort Walton Beach, Ann Arbor, London, Stuttgart, Munich, Stockholm, Bangalore, Seoul, and Tokyo. The company expects full-time employees to work in-office 5 days per week, with flexibility for occasional remote work and schedule adjustments.
Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
Security: Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. security clearance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong leadership skills with ability to directly influence test programs
- Prior military flight test experience
- Strong understanding of the U.S. Defense space and ability to navigate DoD organizations
- Experience in acquisition, test, and evaluation of aviation products
- Advanced (graduate) degree in a technical field related to aerospace
- Completed training in NTPS, USAF TPS, Navy TPS, or equivalent
- Ability to create and refine test objectives and lead test plan working groups, test reviews, and safety reviews
- Ability to author clear and concise test plans, test reports, communication plans, hazard analyses, quick-look reports, checklists, and test cards
- Experience communicating between technical experts and vehicle operators
- Experience running test missions as a test conductor or test director
- 3+ years of professional experience with flight test responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field (Mechanical Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Physics)
NICE TO HAVE:
- Prior FAA airspace sUAS experience
- Prior sUAS autopilot operations (QGroundControl, Pixhawk, MAVlink)
- Proven ability as a self-starter who can adapt and define their role
- FAA Part 107 license
- FAA private pilot license
- Prior experience deploying for flight test campaigns
