Formlabs is seeking a Field Application Engineer to serve as the primary technical point of contact for the company across the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). This is a hands-on role supporting the deployment and maintenance of Formlabs' 3D printing systems, which power innovation at industry leaders including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
You will be responsible for the complete customer lifecycle: equipment installation and commissioning, comprehensive user training, live product demonstrations, and critical break-fix support. The role involves significant travel (80%+ of the time) to customer sites across the region.
Key responsibilities include:
- On-site installation, commissioning, and calibration of 3D printing systems
- Structured training sessions teaching customers how to operate machinery, utilize software, and perform basic maintenance
- Live product demonstrations to build customer confidence
- Rapid-response troubleshooting and repairs to minimize customer downtime
- Preventative maintenance scheduling, targeting 90-day service windows for warrantied customers
- Electromechanical diagnostics with a focus on single-visit resolutions
- Independent management of complex travel logistics (flights, trains, hotels, rental cars)
- Meticulous documentation of installations, training, and repairs in Salesforce
You will be based in Munich or within a 45-minute drive, leveraging the city's hub connectivity for frequent travel across the DACH region and beyond.
Requirements:
- Based in Munich or within 45-minute commute (highly preferred)
- Strong technical background in electromechanical/hardware systems
- Excellent soft skills: ability to teach and explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Fluency in German and English (both C1 level)
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness and energy for 80%+ travel schedule
