Formlabs is seeking an Enterprise Architect to join the Systems Department as a strategic technical leader reporting directly to the CIO. This is a hands-on role combining software engineering expertise with enterprise systems architecture, requiring both code-level contributions and high-level strategic decision-making.
You will define and drive the technology strategy for Formlabs' core platforms (Salesforce, NetSuite, Shopify) and their interactions with custom applications and data layers. Key responsibilities include:
**Architecture & Strategy**: Design the go-forward technology strategy, focusing on platform integration and custom application architecture.
**Solution Design**: Partner with delivery teams (Financial Systems, Digital Systems, Data) to architect scalable, secure solutions for major initiatives including eCommerce migration and ERP optimizations.
**Hands-on Engineering**: Build proofs-of-concept and establish architectural patterns using Python, GCP, and containerized applications. You will get directly involved in code and prototyping.
**Integration Governance**: Own technical decision-making and trade-offs, holding final authority on architectural choices to ensure long-term system stability and scalability.
**Engineering Principles**: Establish and enforce engineering principles for custom applications and automations, driving efficiency and reducing maintenance burden.
**Automation & Innovation**: Lead discovery and adoption of new toolsets, including AI-supported workflows and modern integration middleware.
The Systems team enables all areas of Formlabs with enterprise applications, infrastructure, data, and security, with team members distributed globally. This role is based in Somerville, MA with hybrid expectations of at least 3 days per week in office.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or related field
- Hybrid technical background: core software engineering experience (Python, API design) combined with enterprise systems experience (ERP, CRM, eCommerce)
- Proven experience designing enterprise integration patterns and middleware strategies in complex landscapes; understanding of when to use IPaaS vs. custom microservices vs. point-to-point APIs
- Deep hands-on experience with GCP (or AWS/Azure) and modern deployment practices including Docker and Kubernetes
- Functional and technical familiarity with Salesforce, NetSuite, and Shopify
- Strong working knowledge of SQL and data warehousing principles (BigQuery experience is a strong plus)
- Consultative and decisive leadership style; excellent listener who can partner with stakeholders but confident in making firm technical decisions
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Experience with AI tooling implementation (LLMs, RAG, Agents) in enterprise context
- Experience with Gearset or similar DevOps tools for Salesforce
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts (ETL/ELT, Airbyte)
- Background in security architecture and vulnerability management
