Normal Computing is an applied AI company building foundational hardware and software for the semiconductor industry and critical AI infrastructure. The company operates across New York City, Silicon Valley (Mountain View), London, Copenhagen, and Seoul. As Engineering Manager, Compiler & Runtime, you will build and lead the team responsible for the core software stack that makes Normal's specialized hardware programmable. This includes the compiler that converts PyTorch models to the hardware, the runtime that executes them, and the kernels in between. Normal's hardware accelerates memory-bound parts of large-model inference by processing data inside memory itself, rather than shuttling weights to a processor. This is a people-leadership role on a technical team. You will hire the team from its first engineers, set the hiring bar, and develop each engineer's career growth. You will translate the Systems Software roadmap into concrete plans, milestones, and staffing, with success measured by LLMs running end-to-end on the hardware through PyTorch. Key responsibilities include: - Growing the compiler and runtime team and establishing hiring standards - Delivering against the roadmap with clear milestones and staffing plans - Partnering with the senior compiler architect to make and execute technical decisions - Coordinating with hardware teams (drivers, firmware) and serving/simulation work - Maintaining compiler and runtime functionality across simulators, FPGA prototypes, and silicon as hardware matures - Establishing testing, release, and review practices for production-quality software The chip is pre-silicon, so the team initially builds against simulators and FPGA prototypes. You will own the continuity from simulation through silicon bring-up, ensuring software development never waits on tapeout. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: - Experience managing engineers who build compilers, runtimes, or kernels for accelerators or non-standard hardware - Track record of hiring and mentoring strong systems engineers - Sufficient depth in compilers and runtimes to review designs and weigh technical trade-offs with senior engineers - Experience delivering software against a hardware schedule, from simulation through bring-up - Familiarity with state-of-the-art ML compiler stacks and LLM inference workloads BONUS QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience taking an accelerator software stack from zero to production at a startup or new hardware initiative - Experience with in-memory compute, processing-in-memory, or analog hardware interfaces - Experience shipping an SDK or software product to external customers
