Formlabs is seeking a Manager of Electrical Engineering to lead and develop a rapidly growing team of electrical engineers working on next-generation 3D printing technology. The company's 3D printers are used by over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will spend most of your time as an active contributor in product development while managing a team of talented electrical engineers. You'll help the team navigate design tradeoffs and ship industry-leading products, constantly questioning product assumptions and scoping electrical engineering work to focus on what is critical to customer success. You will drive the team to hit program milestones, provide input to program schedules, and actively collaborate with cross-functional leaders to develop products more efficiently.
Key responsibilities include hiring the best engineers and helping them reach their highest potential, continuously improving the results and outputs of the electrical engineering function, influencing product strategy, and shaping how the Hardware Engineering function operates holistically.
Formlabs' 3D printers contain complex analog and digital electronics, sensors, displays, and motion systems driven by embedded firmware. Products are designed for high-volume production with bulletproof electronics and the right balance of performance and cost. The electrical engineering team works on the entire product lifecycle—from initial concept through production ECOs—while collaborating closely with engineers across multiple disciplines.
Requirements:
- Expert in the design and production of complex electrical systems
- Working knowledge of embedded systems and code
- Multiple shipped products, taken from concept through production
- Ability to communicate fluidly across technical domains
- Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to tie technical work to customer value
- Proven ability to help engineers reach their highest potential and build high-performing teams
- Experience with product development, program management, and cross-functional collaboration
