Mashgin powers automated checkout kiosks using AI-powered computer vision, serving over 40 million users across sports venues, convenience stores, airports, universities, and more. The company has processed over 1 billion transactions and is Series B-funded and profitable.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will be a primary driver of hardware evolution for Mashgin's kiosk platform. This role blends deep technical hardware design with program management responsibilities. You will own significant responsibility across the full product lifecycle, from prototype through mass production, and are expected to communicate technical risks to non-technical stakeholders, create and drive timelines, and navigate ambiguity with urgency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and integrating system-level electrical designs including computer platforms (x86/SoC), camera modules, sensors, displays, and external peripherals
- Owning system power architecture including power distribution, sequencing, power budgeting, and thermal considerations
- Leading hardware bring-up, debugging, and system validation across electrical, firmware, and software layers
- Working closely with computer vision teams to enable robust camera performance and diagnose imaging issues
- Supporting camera subsystem development including sensor selection, board integration, and calibration
- Designing and integrating high-speed and low-speed interfaces (USB, PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO)
- Rapidly prototyping and evaluating new system architectures and electro-mechanical concepts
- Driving product development from prototype through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production
- Collaborating with global suppliers and manufacturing partners
The culture emphasizes extreme ownership, autonomy, customer obsession, simplicity, and ruthless prioritization. You will work on a small, multidisciplinary team with direct impact on shipped products.
This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence in San Jose at least 2 times per week.
