Outschool is hiring a Director of Infrastructure Engineering to lead the Infrastructure and Platform team. The mission is to accelerate innovation and deliver operational stability through robust infrastructure, principled platformization, and empowering developer experience.
You will own the full infrastructure stack, from deep technical diving into architecture and systems design, to upleveling developer experience, establishing automations, hardening security, evolving systems to be AI-native, and developing platform components. Success requires both strong organizational and people leadership skills combined with exceptional hands-on development capabilities.
Core responsibilities include leading and mentoring a multi-site team of 5-10 engineers while remaining hands-on with architecture and technical direction. You'll establish both short-term deliverables and long-term strategies across Outschool's entire infrastructure stack, identifying opportunities for infrastructure upgrades, platformization, and AI enablement. You'll partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data, Marketing, and Operations to deliver exceptional systems and experiences, and work with senior leadership to align on strategy, metrics, and priorities.
You'll champion technical excellence and a culture of high ownership, providing mentorship and support for engineer growth. You'll also drive adoption of AI-development principles and agentic engineering workflows across the team.
Ideal candidates have 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years leading medium-sized engineering teams. Strong background in infrastructure and platform engineering with deep expertise in AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, Redshift, Terraform, and Cloudwatch. Familiarity with full-stack development using TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL. Understanding of AI-native development paradigms and experience leading AI transformations. Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple parallel projects, align team goals with business objectives, and contribute to strategic planning. Experience recruiting, hiring, and onboarding engineers, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
