Agility Robotics is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the development of Arc, a cloud SaaS platform that manages software distribution, device configuration, data lakehousing, and task workflow management for deployed Digit humanoid robot fleets. The platform enables supervisors to inspect metrics, manage workflows and workcells, and administer robot and device assets. You will also drive the product vision for the Robot Operations Center, delivering applications focused on customer support and remote issue resolution.
You will lead multiple full-stack, front-end, and cloud services engineering teams toward product delivery on committed timelines. This is an execution-focused role requiring close collaboration with Product partners, Principal Architects, and Technical Program Managers to define and deliver the product vision with data-driven continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Crafting the technical roadmap for the Arc Platform and committing to delivery dates based on product and customer targets; leading resource and staffing planning accordingly.
- Unifying multiple teams (UI team building on-robot interfaces and web/mobile experiences; cloud services team owning workflow orchestration, resource management, and fleet data aggregation) under one roadmap and set of commitments.
- Making technical decisions on OSS selection, language and framework choices, service boundaries, and API contracts; achieving team buy-in and consensus while closing decisions to enable execution.
- Writing requirements for upstream dependencies (e.g., SOC 2 readiness, multi-cell and single-tenant deployment architectures from the Cloud Platform team) and critically reviewing proposals.
- Developing new applications and surfaces for the fleet, including remote diagnostics and mobile experiences for site leaders.
- Managing hiring, leveling, performance, and growth for a fully distributed engineering organization.
The role is hybrid, based out of one of Agility's Salem (OR), Pittsburgh (PA), or Fremont (CA) offices.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Led multiple engineering teams (managing managers and senior individual contributors) toward product delivery on committed timelines; can articulate what slipped and corrective actions taken.
- Experience taking a product from bespoke or single-customer delivery to multi-tenant SaaS, or standing up single-tenant deployments for enterprise customers requiring isolation.
- Technical depth sufficient to review architecture proposals and argue technology, language, and stack choices on the merits.
- Experience with mature CI/CD pipelines and Release Engineering teams/processes to accelerate ship cadence and software quality.
- Demonstrated success managing distributed teams of remote individual contributors.
- Strong partnership with Product and TPM counterparts; comfortable driving execution without owning the roadmap.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Domain experience in Robotics, Industrial Automation, IIoT, or fleet/telematics.
- Full-stack and cloud services breadth.
- SOC 2 or comparable compliance work as an engineering leader.
- Experience with on-device or embedded UI alongside web platforms.
