HomeLight is building its first Data Engineering team to tackle diverse data challenges in real estate. The company analyzes 40+ million real estate transactions from 2.5 million agents to match clients with top-performing agents and guide them through home buying and selling experiences.
In this role, you will own the development, optimization, and operation of HomeLight's data pipeline, which collects, processes, and distributes data to products and teams. You'll provide mission-critical data to both algorithms and internal users, refining products and identifying new markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Optimizing and executing requests to pull, analyze, interpret, and visualize data
- Partnering with team leaders across the organization to build and iterate on performance metrics
- Optimizing data release processes and improving existing data pipelines
- Designing and developing systems that ingest and transform data streams using modern tools
- Designing, building, and integrating new databases and data warehouses with innovative data schemas
- Researching, architecting, building, and testing robust, highly available, and massively scalable systems
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in data, software, or backend engineering roles
- Experience applying LLMs and prompt engineering to real-world workflows
- Strong proficiency in Python for building services, data pipelines, and backend systems
- Experience designing, building, and operating service-oriented architectures and APIs
- Solid understanding of data modeling, system design, and scalable architecture patterns
- Hands-on experience with data pipelines and ETL workflows (Airflow or similar)
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Codex, Claude Code)
- Strong analytical thinking with a bias toward automation and building scalable systems
Nice to have:
- Experience building and scaling product features using Ruby on Rails or Django
- Familiarity with AWS for production applications
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch or other search technologies
- Exposure to LLM-powered product use cases
- Experience in startup or fast-paced environments with high ownership
