Mistral is hiring a Data Center Hardware Engineer to maintain and operate one of Sweden's largest AI clusters in the Dalarna region. You will work hands-on in the data center, diagnosing and repairing server and cluster hardware including CPUs, memory, drives, NICs, GPUs, PSUs, and high-speed interconnects (Ethernet/InfiniBand switches, cables, transceivers). The role sits at the intersection of high-performance computing and physical infrastructure, supporting GPU-dense racks with next-generation platforms and liquid-cooled systems.
Key responsibilities include: diagnosing and repairing hardware failures; performing safe power-off/lockout procedures with ESD discipline and pre/post-work checklists; documenting work with photos, serials, and test results in ticketing systems; managing parts inventory, RMAs, and vendor coordination; contributing to monitoring, alerts, and standard operating procedures based on recurring anomalies; and writing small automation scripts in Python/Bash when applicable. You will be part of a small, senior on-site team carrying end-to-end responsibility for hardware operations in a 24/7 environment, including rotating on-call with emergency response expectations.
Mistral provides full-stack AI solutions from frontier models to developer tools and compute infrastructure. The company partners with enterprises in finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector. Teams are distributed across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, with new data center sites under development in France and beyond.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on comfort in data centers or server hardware; ability to work cleanly in racks (rails, cabling, labeling, mounting)
- Disciplined, meticulous approach to checklists and documentation
- Practical electrical basics: power-off procedures, PPE, short-circuit risk awareness
- Basic Linux knowledge (boot checks, logs); scripting is a plus but not required
- Physically able to work in racks (lift, mount, maneuver) in a data center environment
- Comfortable in 24/7 operations with rotating on-call and emergency response expectations
- Valid driver's license (category B) for travel between sites
NICE TO HAVE:
- HPC/AI/cloud production experience at scale; large-fleet server install and maintenance
- Networking fundamentals (Ethernet/InfiniBand) beyond basics
- Vendor/RMA tooling, ticketing systems (Jira/ServiceNow), inventory systems
- Python/Bash automation for checks, capture, inventory, or reporting
