Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving using end-to-end learning approaches. This role is a hands-on technical position within the Application Engineering organization, based in Germany to support localization and advancement of Wayve's autonomous driving technology for the German market.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Provide hands-on technical support to customers throughout development and validation phases
- Serve as the bridge between customer vehicle integration teams and Wayve's internal engineering teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently, escalating complex or critical issues to appropriate stakeholders
- Develop deep understanding of customer systems and APIs (e.g., drive-by-wire) to guide internal teams
- Maintain system-level perspective to identify root causes, whether vehicle-based or software-related
- Support customers throughout the entire development lifecycle from initial integration to final validation
- Perform rapid diagnostics and identify issues in real time, collaborating directly with customer engineering teams
- Distinguish between vehicle-related issues and those specific to the Wayve AI Driver
You will be located near customers, positioned to work hands-on in vehicle workshops and labs. The role combines in-person collaboration with remote flexibility through a hybrid working model.
Wayve's approach is distinctive: instead of hand-coded rules or pre-mapped environments, their AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it, enabling navigation of complex urban environments with intelligence and precision. The platform is mapless and hardware-agnostic, integrating with global OEM partners and supporting continuous software evolution from L2+ through L4 automation levels.
The company operates main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg, with a hybrid model combining in-person collaboration with focused remote work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
- Proven ability to lead investigations into platform or vehicle issues in collaboration with internal and customer teams
- Extensive hands-on experience with development vehicles
- Proficiency with diagnostic and calibration tools (e.g., CANape or similar)
- Familiarity with terminal usage and willingness to develop basic programming skills
- Solid understanding of vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet) and automotive system architectures
- Practical experience working in an automotive environment, ideally with a track record of bringing products to production
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with customers and internal teams
- Willingness to travel as required
Note: The posting explicitly states "Not ticking every box? That's totally okay! If you're passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement."
