BETA Technologies is revolutionizing electric aviation through sustainable aircraft development. The Computational Design Engineer will bridge generative design methods and optimization with aircraft geometry, physics models, and manufacturing constraints.
You will build parametric geometry, design-space definitions, multidisciplinary optimization (MDO) workflows, surrogate models, and automated solver loops. Your work will verify generated concepts and support aircraft development while creating reusable methods and evidence for broader Advanced Systems teams and partners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop parametric geometry and MDO workflows that integrate aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, manufacturing, AI/ML, and digital engineering disciplines
- Verify generated concepts and maintain executable design workflows
- Produce and maintain trade-space results, verified concepts, and method documentation
- Support the Program Director and Chief Engineer by applying AI to wing-engine and configuration trades while ensuring generated output is grounded in engineering evidence
- Document assumptions, interfaces, decisions, risks, and verification needs in configuration-controlled engineering records
- Communicate status, unresolved issues, and recommended actions in technical and program reviews
- Coordinate across Aerodynamics, Structures, Propulsion, Manufacturing, AI/ML, and Digital Engineering teams
The role is based onsite at the South Burlington, VT or Raleigh, NC offices. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid arrangement with monthly in-person visits to South Burlington, VT. You will work regularly in office, laboratory, manufacturing, hangar, aircraft, and test environments, with occasional standing, walking, bending, hands-on hardware work, lifting, travel, and nonstandard test hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in systems, aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or related field
- Three or more years of relevant engineering or complex-product experience
- Experience with requirements, interfaces, architecture, configuration, verification, or multidisciplinary product integration
- Ability to structure and maintain traceable technical information and drive cross-functional actions to closure
- Working knowledge of aircraft development, safety, configuration control, and design-review practices
- Ability to communicate technical assumptions, limitations, risks, and recommendations clearly across disciplines
- Must be a US Person
Desired Qualifications:
- Applied AI, optimization, agent, digital-thread, or engineering-software experience in regulated or safety-critical environments
- Experience integrating commercial and internal engineering tools through APIs and controlled data pipelines
- Experience with model evaluation, observability, security, data rights, or human-in-the-loop approval workflows
