Octopus Energy is building a new business line delivering low-cost, reliable, clean energy and faster speed-to-power for data centers and large industrial customers. This is a quantitative commercial role with direct exposure to large-scale innovative power projects. You will own the project financial model for each opportunity, building comprehensive analyses covering generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), flexible load, network costs, capex, opex, revenue stacks, IRR, and downside scenarios. You'll develop tooling and standard assumptions to support the growing pipeline. Key responsibilities include pricing customer offers by translating load profiles and reliability requirements into deliverable prices and structures (tariff, PPA, tolling, availability-based), showing how each option allocates risk sensibly for both parties. You'll model storage and flexible load across wholesale markets, Balancing Mechanism, ancillary services, and Capacity Market, quantifying network charges (TNUoS, DUoS, BSUoS), curtailment, and connection options. You'll develop business cases through internal and external presentations supporting projects from indicative customer proposals to final investment decisions. You'll track the portfolio against approved cases—monitoring spend, milestones, and connection dates—and identify and quantify regulatory changes (connections reform, REMA, network charging). You'll support term sheets and diligence from indicative to signed stage. Octopus Energy Group is described as a unique culture emphasizing rapid learning, decision-making, and building. The company was named the UK's top company to work for in 2025 and ranked in the top ten in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026. REQUIREMENTS: - 3–5 years in a numerate commercial role: infrastructure or renewables development, project finance, banking, energy trading or origination, strategy, or energy consultancy - Financial modelling from first principles: DCF, IRR, scenarios, and sensitivities; ability to build models others can follow and develop as standard tools - Advanced knowledge of GB/European power markets and how network and connection costs impact projects - Advanced Excel and Python - Ability to take messy, incomplete problems to clear recommendations - Quantitative degree (economics, engineering, finance, maths, physics) or equivalent experience NICE-TO-HAVE: - Data center, large industrial load, or behind-the-meter/private wire project experience - BESS revenue stacking experience - PPA, tolling, or connection agreement experience taken to signature - Familiarity with Aurora, PLEXOS, or equivalent tools
