Salary: USD 191,000 - 253,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the technical development of maritime autonomous weapon systems. You will oversee the complete lifecycle from concept through delivery, working closely with strategy teams and strategic customer partners to ensure requirements are tied to customer inputs and traceable to program office technical decisions.
In this leadership role, you will manage diverse technical initiatives requiring both technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities. You will set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and drive rapid execution. Your experience in programmatic-level decision-making will be critical to ensuring appropriate design, analysis, and testing steps are completed for success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage initial design, prototyping, capability verification, and delivery of a maritime autonomous weapon system
- Manage system and subsystem design including architecture development, requirements definition, system/subsystem trades, optimization, and risk management
- Perform systems engineering and trade analyses to explore and rapidly iterate early conceptual designs while working with technical subject matter experts and strategic growth teams
- Coordinate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to embed design-for-manufacturing principles in early concepts and scale to full-rate production
- Work with senior leadership to ensure adequate resource planning for work scope
- Oversee technical execution of a new surface product for Anduril Maritime
- Define key capabilities, milestones, and demonstrations for continuous autonomous systems development
This role requires 25% travel to customer and test sites.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent, or proven experience in a relevant field
- Minimum 15 years of technical leadership and systems engineering experience on defense systems or weapon programs
- Strong systems engineering and architecture definition background bridging software and hardware product development
- Strong understanding of how product development integrates into program acquisitions, ensuring HW/SW roadmap and program requirement alignment
- Strong leadership qualities and demonstrated collaborative/integrative leadership capacity
- Experience working with, defining, and fielding sensing payloads and communications architectures
- Ability to support and/or manage technological roadmaps in critical areas for collaborative design and capability alignment
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated understanding of multi-domain unmanned and autonomous weapon system development and employment
- Demonstrated engineering management capability with proven technical and personnel leadership
- Experience in technical leadership of weapon or defense system programs from initial concept design through full development, testing, qualification, and rate manufacture
- Strong understanding of autonomous system architecture and overall design approach for unmanned weapons systems
- Experience working on mission-critical DOD systems
- Experience building and managing cross-functional teams around a common vision
