Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving using end-to-end learning from real-world experience. The Generative Simulation team is advancing autonomous driving research through next-generation world models like GAIA—systems that simulate complex, diverse, and temporally consistent driving environments to enable faster training, broader testing, and scalable deployment in new geographies without real-world data collection. In this role, you will develop next-generation world models and planners that can run thousands of roll-outs per second, support closed-loop agent interaction, and operate within practical compute budgets. You'll work at the intersection of machine learning research, multi-modal modeling, and real-world deployment. Day-to-day responsibilities include: - Setting technical direction and designing key system components - Deep work implementing and debugging new modeling capabilities in Python/PyTorch - Cross-team collaboration, brainstorming, and pair programming - Mentoring teammates through code review and experimental feedback - Sync meetings to share findings and align on priorities - Reading and summarizing latest research papers for team discussion Key projects: - Invent efficient generative world models (diffusion, transformer, or hybrid architectures) delivering real-time roll-outs and controllable scene editing - Architect interactive world models enabling reinforcement learning, planning, and safety evaluation loops - Optimize end-to-end performance from latent compression to context pruning, reducing inference latency by orders of magnitude - Define robust metrics for long-horizon coherence, physics fidelity, and planner integration; run ablations and scaling studies - Ship impact by integrating models into closed-loop training and measuring sim-to-real gaps - Mentor junior researchers, shape technical roadmaps, publish at top venues, and represent Wayve in the community - Challenge assumptions and drive innovation through bold ideas and rigorous experimentation Wayve operates hybrid working with main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. The company combines in-person collaboration with remote flexibility. Benefits include market-benchmarked salaries, meaningful equity, relocation support and visa sponsorship, learning and development budgets, comprehensive health insurance, enhanced parental leave, retirement/pension, and wellness partnerships. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of experience in ML research/engineering with focus on generative video and world models - Deep knowledge in diffusion and latent-video models; track record of improving sampling efficiency or model throughput - Experience working with high-dimensional temporal or spatial-temporal data (e.g., video, multi-sensor fusion) - Strong Python and PyTorch engineering fundamentals; experience building research-grade production tools - Strong publication record or contributions to open-source ML tooling - Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, innovative, interdisciplinary team environment Note: The posting encourages applications from those passionate about autonomy even if not meeting every requirement.
