Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead, Applied AI to drive technical strategy, execution, and delivery of complex AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will lead a team of Applied AI Engineers, ensuring successful deployment of Mistral AI products and development of high-impact, scalable AI use cases.
In this role, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers, guiding them through the entire lifecycle from pre-sales to post-implementation. You will collaborate closely with research, product, and engineering teams to shape the future of Mistral's offerings, bridging cutting-edge AI research with real-world enterprise applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver critical code for complex projects as an individual contributor, staying hands-on in coding, reviewing, and optimizing AI solutions while de-risking critical project components
- Lead technical teams of Applied AI Engineers, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and best practices for deploying state-of-the-art GenAI applications
- Lead technical discussions during pre-sales, translating customer requirements into actionable solutions and communicating Mistral's technological advantages
- Design and oversee implementation of complex AI systems including fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications
- Drive innovation by identifying emerging AI trends, evaluating new tools and methodologies, and championing best practices
- Work closely with product managers, researchers, and engineers to integrate customer feedback into product development

Requirements:
- PhD or Master's degree in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field
- 7-8+ years of experience in AI/ML
- At least 2+ years in a technical leadership role (Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect) focused on AI products or enterprise solutions
- Proven track record leading teams to deliver complex AI projects from prototyping to production in tech, finance, healthcare, or industrial automation
- Deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale
- Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and modern AI frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face)
- Strong software engineering skills including API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture
- Excellent technical communication ability for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Fluent in English
Ideally:
- Open-source contributions, particularly in LLM or AI space
- Customer-facing experience (Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Technical Product Manager) with enterprise AI adoption focus
- Track record driving technical strategy and influencing product direction based on customer needs
