Salary: USD 85,000 - 148,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a 3D Print Optimization Engineer to join the Print Optimization Team, which focuses on optimizing the intersection of hardware, software, and materials to deliver industry-leading print performance across SLA and SLS product lines.
In this role, you will use problem-solving skills to drive improved performance across Formlabs' 3D printing platforms. You'll work on a customer-focused team to understand what performance improvements matter most and how many customers will benefit from each optimization. Your work will directly impact whether customers can print parts faster, with greater reliability, easier post-processing, or improved accuracy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Pushing the capabilities of SLA and SLS 3D printing platforms
- Conducting root cause analysis across mechanics, fluid dynamics, software, chemistry, optics, electronics, thermodynamics, and customer behavior
- Designing efficient experiments to understand complex systems with multiple variables
- Tackling multi-disciplinary problems that span hardware, software, and materials
- Developing and commercializing solutions that deliver real, immediate impact on customer print performance
You will work autonomously, cross discipline boundaries to solve problems, and learn new skills as needed. The team values hands-on builders with strong ownership and attention to detail.

Requirements:
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in any science or engineering discipline
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Customer-focused mindset with attention to detail
- Hands-on approach and willingness to cross discipline boundaries
- Ability to work autonomously and learn new skills
Bonus qualifications:
- Coding experience, ideally Python
- Computer-aided design (CAD) experience
- Understanding of material properties and characterization
- Experience participating in new product releases
