Salary: USD 85,000 - 148,000 / annual

Formlabs is seeking a 3D Print Optimization Engineer to join the Print Optimization Team in Boston. The team focuses on optimizing the intersection of hardware, software, and materials to deliver industry-leading print performance across SLA and SLS product lines, making parts print faster, more reliably, more accurately, and with better finish quality. In this role, you will drive continuous performance improvements by applying problem-solving skills to complex, multi-disciplinary challenges. You'll work closely with customers to understand what performance improvements matter most and how many customers will benefit from each optimization. Your work will directly impact whether customers can print parts faster, achieve greater reliability, reduce post-processing time, or improve accuracy. Key responsibilities include: - Pushing the capabilities of Formlabs' SLA and SLS 3D printing platforms - Conducting root cause analysis across mechanics, fluid dynamics, software, chemistry, optics, electronics, thermodynamics, and customer behavior - Designing efficient experiments to isolate underlying behavior in complex systems with many variables - Tackling multi-disciplinary problems that span hardware, software, and materials - Developing and commercializing solutions that deliver real, immediate impact on customer print performance You are customer-focused with strong ownership mentality and attention to detail. You work hands-on, willing to cross discipline boundaries to solve problems. You work autonomously and are eager to learn new skills to achieve objectives. Requirements: - B.S., M.S., or PhD in any science or engineering discipline - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across multiple disciplines - Customer-focused mindset with attention to detail - Autonomous work style with willingness to learn new skills Bonus qualifications: - Coding experience, ideally Python - Computer-aided design (CAD) experience - Understanding of material properties and characterization - Experience participating in new product releases
